If you’re planning to wed soon, you might have already begun thinking about how you want your big day to be photographed and filmed. While there are certainly plenty of questions you’ll need to ask your potential vendors (like if they are available on the date of your wedding), there are also some specific questions that pertain more directly to your photographer or videographer. If you’re still in the process of narrowing down your options, make sure you ask these questions before booking so that there won’t be any surprises on the big day.

1. What will my photos look like?

Your wedding photos will be a cherished part of your big day that you’ll look back on for years to come. When meeting with potential photographers, be sure to ask about their shooting style and view their portfolio to get a sense of what your own photos might look like. Other important questions to ask include:
-How long have you been shooting weddings?
-How many weddings have you shot?
-Do you have a second shooter?

2. Can I see some examples of your work?

This is probably the most important question you can ask a wedding photographer. Their portfolio will give you a good idea of their style and skill level. But don’t just stop at looking at their website. Ask to see a full album or two from recent weddings. This will give you a better idea of what it’s actually like to work with them on your big day.

3. How do you handle equipment failures?

No one likes to think about equipment failures, but they can and do happen. Here are a few questions to ask your photographer before you book them to help ensure that you’re covered in case of any unforeseen equipment issues.

  1. What kind of backup equipment do you have?
  2. Have you ever had a major equipment failure during a wedding? If so, how did you handle it?
  3. What is your policy on overtime fees if the wedding runs late?

4. What happens if it rains?

If you’re worried about the weather ruining your big day, don’t be afraid to ask your photographer what their rain plan is. Most photographers are prepared for a little rain and will have a plan in place to keep you and your wedding party safe while still getting the shots you want. But it’s always good to be prepared, just in case. Here are a few questions to ask your photographer before you book

5. Can I get a discount for booking with you?

You might be able to get a discount if you’re willing to be flexible with your wedding date or if you book your photographer early. Ask about discounts or promotions that might be available.

6. Are there any requirements regarding attire?

When you’re meeting with potential photographers, be sure to ask about their policy on attire. Some photographers may have a strict dress code for themselves and their assistants, while others are more relaxed. It’s important to know what the photographer’s policy is so that you can be sure you’re comfortable with it.

7. Do you have backup plans in case something goes wrong?

Wedding photography is a big investment, and you want to make sure you’re getting the best possible service for your money

8. What are your time frame recommendations?

When interviewing potential photographers, be sure to ask about their time frame recommendations. This will help you ensure that your photographer is able to capture all of the important moments on your big day. Here are some specific questions to ask:

  1. How long will it take for us to receive our wedding photos?
  2. When will you be able to start working on our wedding video?
  3. Do you have any other weddings booked around our date?
  4. How many hours do you recommend we book you for?
  5. What is your policy if we go over our allotted time?
  6. Do you offer a discount for booking additional hours?
  7. Are there any other fees we should be aware of?
